Root Canal Treatment
Root canal treatment is indicated when the nerve of
a tooth is affected by dental decay or infection. Having a root canal
treatment done on such a tooth is the only way to save it. In order
to save the tooth, the pulp (the living tissue inside the tooth), nerves,
bacteria, and any decay are removed and the resulting space is filled
with special, materials, which restore the tooth to its full function.
Root canal treatment when done properly is highly successful and usually
lasts a lifetime. Occasionally a root canal treated tooth may have to
be retreated due to new infections.
Indications for Root canal treatment
1. Decay has reached the tooth pulp (the living tissue
inside the tooth).
2. Infection or abscess have developed inside the tooth or at the root
tip.
3. Injury or trauma to the tooth including fracture of tooth.
