Preventative care

Routine Preventative care is the only way to ensure that you maintain the healthy teeth and gums. If you want to treat and prevent common problems such as bad breath, tooth decay, periodontal disease, dental cavities etc you are going to need preventative dental services on a regular basis.
It is always a good idea to get your teeth checked every 6 months. During this appointment in addition to a Dental examination the Dentist at Ace Dental Centre Auckland would also perform Professional Dental Cleaning which includes the following:

1. Removal of plaque: Plaque is a sticky, invisible film that forms on the teeth. It is a colony of bacteria, food particles, and saliva. The bacteria produce toxins (poisons) that inflame the gums. This inflammation is the start of Gum disease!

2. Removal of calculus (tartar): Calculus is hardened plaque that has been left on the tooth for some time and is now firmly attached to the tooth surface. Calculus forms above and below the gum line and can only be removed with special dental instruments.

3. Teeth polishing: Remove stain and plaque that is not otherwise removed during tooth brushing and scaling
